Since we've been back from Christmas

Since we've been back I have been mainly focusing of unit 12 things but the weeks have generally stayed the same. I have spent a lot of time socialising since the Christmas break and I believe I have achieved my goal of being more involved and confident. The first few weeks back I didn't know what my show was yet so I got on with other work like my sewing project, plans for the planter and dyeing fabrics to see which ones would be good to work with on projects in the future, I haven't made much progress of my sewing project as I still have to cut out the skirt parts which is very painful to do as the scissors irritate the eczema on my hands.

The first week that I knew what the show was I had to sit in on the actors lesson, I can understand why they need to know about politics of the play and the historical meanings behind a lot of it but I don't see why I had to be there and participate in talks about feminism and stuff as that has nothing to do with set and props. I personally feel like the lessons spent with them were a waste of time as I could have used that time to go through the script and start doing my own research that would actually be helpful. It makes sense to watch the rehearsals as then I can take notes and find out what they want and get it done pretty quickly but that's kind of the DSM's job. The only somewhat useful thing we've done in those lessons has been making the mood board, but even that is more useful to other people. They've started to do some rehearsal stuff now in which they need practice costumes and props to fill in for the real things, I went through the script and wrote down everything that I thought could be a prop but I haven't had a specific list from Anne or the actors, just a few things that have been mentioned.

I have made a start on the doll that they wanted, I showed Anne my research and she said it was the wrong type of doll, it would have been useful and saved time if she had just told me what she wanted from the start. But I did some new research and started to make the doll, I cut out all the pieces, stuffed them and sewed it all together, so now I have the basic body that they can use in rehearsals. I still need to create an outfit for it but I was told it had to match one of the other characters so I have to wait until I know what that looks like before I get started on. I know I should have made the doll differently, if I have to make it again I would sew the arms and legs into the seams of the body instead on sewing all the limbs on separately, I think it would make it look neater and have it be more secure, although doing that would make it a lot harder to flip inside out after.

I want to get a start on the wedding cake but I need to talk to Anne first as it could be completely wrong like the doll and I don't want to waste my time. I've got to say I'm not really enjoying this show so far, it's kind of a disappointing one to have for my final show, I'm sure it will turn out fine but it doesn't look like I'll get to make something cool like the jukebox from last year. I think the most detailed thing I would get to make would be the cake but I know if I ask what they want it to look like it will probably end up being boring.

Target: I need to finish the doll and start on some other props, like the cake or some of the picnic items.
